You know what? Don’t change, don’t learn anything, just relax, it would be a bother anyways…
…why would it be good bending over books or online courses? Tiring, right? Especially if you think about that there are more and more jobs that require continuous learning. If you don’t learn, you will be left behind: miss out on knowledge, information and opportunities. After all we all try our best day-by-day even though those efforts are not bringing the results.
I had a coaching session when my coachee told me, totally shocked when learned about the idea of lifelong learning, that it is hard. I could see (s)he was afraid. So, I realized the root of all evil is learning itself or the lack of knowledge on how to learn. There are many who doesn’t know how to learn. For me learning is a fun game, an exploration on broadening my reality, but for many it’s a drag. Since we have time…
Slow down, don’t overthink things
Just because we have a bit more time it doesn’t mean we need to overthink things. Because if we do that we create more problems and the solution gets farther away. Simply because we won’t see it even if it were right in front of our eyes. That’s the worst actually, we drive ourselves into an ever deeper pit of doubt, problems and insecurity. The best way for now can be just to slow down. Whatever we do we can take our time and enjoy the process. Whether it is about learning a new skill or cooking something delicious or starting a new project, if we slow down and give the time to dive deeper into the things we do, we will become more balanced. Funnily enough it won’t take more time then it would by doing it anxiously and in a hurry, but it has one distinct advantage: there will be less mistakes.
Just like others, I also discovered the ways of effective learning a long time ago, mind you first and foremost I like doing things quickly and effectively:
-
Focus on one thing at a time. If you realize your brain started wander and you want to grab your phone to check your story’s performance on Facebook then first weight if it’s worth the time you miss and the time you need to get back on track again.
-
Make sure you understand the context and the words if you learn something. Find logic in the sentence.
-
Practise, practise and practise.
So, how to start the new project?
-
Dig into the topic and learn about it.
-
Put into use immediately, or as soon as you could find your project. Practice it!
-
Create a plan what you will need to learn or improve in order to reach the desired results.
-
Plan the steps you will take, but leave enough room for adjustments or redesigning it.
-
Don’t tie your happiness or worthiness to the outcome of your project, the road what it matters the most: don’t forget, we can’t predict the future, so don’t be discouraged if things won’t turn out the way you imagined them or planned them. Just continue looking for opportunities and skills you or your project lacks, you will more likely create something more incredible than you originally thought.
